My Favourite Frames #9

There’s still something magical about film photography — alchemy versus pixels, I suppose.

The longest lens I had back then was a beautiful Nikkor 105mm. By today’s standards, not very long, but I loved it for backing off from the subject and compressing the frame. I’m not entirely sure what draws me back to this image, but I just really like it. The location hasn’t changed a bit in the thirty years since it was captured, yet it captures an era so succinctly — no high-vis jacket, and I’d bet he wasn’t wearing safety boots either!

I’ve always loved creating images with strong visual elements, especially typographic ones. Back in its day, this could have been a solid editorial image, suitable for a variety of stories or features. Yet this is its first real outing in public — enjoy!
