My Favourite Frames #21

I left The Scotsman in 2009, where I’d been working as a commercial photographer, to stay at home with our newborn daughter and 18-month-old son. I took a year out, which allowed my wife to return to her business part-time. At the time, I thought I might drift back into wedding photography at weekends… mercifully, that never happened.

Instead, I gradually re-established myself as a commercial photographer, naturally gravitating back towards rural and agri-food work. With one full day to myself each week while the kids were at nursery – and very mindful of costs in the post-financial crash climate – I started heading out into the countryside to build a library of agricultural stock images. During the week, often while the kids were napping, I’d caption, keyword and upload the images to stock libraries.

This shot came from one of those days. I’d already pictured it in my head before heading out – armed with a fisheye lens, I just needed to find the right field not too far from home. It’s a relatively simple setup: camera placed on the ground, self-timer on, and then get out of the way quickly so I wasn’t in the frame! I really like this image. It’s part of my stock library and available for licensing via the link below.
