My Favourite Frames #34

This picture here is a perfect example of what I like to call “looking with intent”. At the risk of sounding a bit silly, what I mean by this is actively looking at a scene and seeking out photographs to capture. Seldom does one setup just yield a single image. With this one, captured in the aquaculture sector I seem to recall we were waiting for fish to conduct a health test when I spotted this reflection in the glasses on one of the farmers. It’s subtle, a scene within a scene if you like but I find it quite engaging and a different perspective on a salmon pen with a work boat to the rear.

It’s the simplicity of this shot that makes it one of my favourites of recent years. At first glance just a tight shot of a mans face but the darkest and sharpest part of the image reveal the story I want the viewer to read. It’s unlikely a shot like this would be commissioned but when looking with intent, these scenes often present themselves. They don’t always work out but are always worth shooting for the ones that do.
