I photographed these children last week on film at a shoot styled by Rachel Hayton from Aspire Photography on the banks of Coniston Water in the Lake District. It was a fantastic opportunity to use a variety of film stocks exposing in a slightly different fashion and using several different film cameras, each with their own distinctive look.
So, I shot with my usual Blad H1, a Pentax 6×7 (which I’ve been shooting personal work on all summer) and my EOS1. I shot on kodak Portra 160, 400 and Tri-X and also several rolls of Fuji 400H. I was most interested in underexposing the Kodak stocks to see what sort of results I could glean and am very happy with the results. It is just a bit different from how I’ve been shooting of late and it’s a look that I’ll be carrying over in to my paid-for work. Straight after the shoot I headed down to my lab, AG Photo Lab in Birmingham and they dev’d and scanned the films while I waited which was a proper treat – the images here are pretty much as they were scanned with just a couple of very minor tweaks. Big thanks to Rachel for her tireless efforts on the day, Nick at AG for fab scans and not forgetting the children who were nothing short of amazing! family photographer Perth.
